We Want A Dog

Aaron and I have decided we want to get a puppy. And not just any puppy. But a Great Dane puppy (specifically from this place: www.greatdanekingdom.com). The way we see it, we'll more than likely be in a condo/loft in Tacoma. And Great Danes are great apartment dogs. Plus, we want something big.... to "protect" me since he'll be gone a lot. And in case you weren't aware, Great Danes get big. Huge. And so tall. Which is perfect because Aaron and I are tall! So he'll fit in perfectly with us. He'll be great company, snuggly when he sleeps in the bed with us AND great protection. Who is better fit for the task than this guy? (When he's all grown up of course...)

So of course, we spent a long time thinking about dog names. Why? I have no idea- it's not like we can even get one for a while. But it was fun to at least throw some ideas around. My personal favorite? Seamus (pronounced "Shamus"). As in Seamus O'Toole (One of Owen Wilson's aliases in Wedding Crashers, along with Vince Vaughn's Bobby O'Shea). We'll see. Any ideas? Throw them my way. Don't be shy.

Phew!!...

... After a little scare, when it dawned on me (... or Aaron, rather) that one of the IP's might come across "our" (or my) blog in a search to dig up dirt on him before his Assignment Night, I took one for the team and deleted it--even though I had just begun. However, now that Assignment Night is over and we know where we're going and what plane Aaron will be flying: I'm back.
In case you hadn't heard, either via my mass texts, mass emails, my Facebook announcement or my excited shouts from the hills, Aaron and I are being stationed at McChord AFB in Lakewood, Washington--right outside of Tacoma, which is right outside of Seattle (Hello, Starbucks...). He'll be flying a C-17 (his first choice!) and we couldn't be more thrilled. Next week, he'll get his orders (hopefully) so we'll find out when he has to go to Altus AFB to train on the C-17 for a few months, and also when we're expected to arrive at McChord.

Don't worry: I've already checked Expedia, and right now, if you book a flight about 2 months in advance, they're running about $380.00. Not pocket change necessarily, BUT also doable. Regularly. And if you all love me, you WILL visit regularly...

Anyway, the trip out there was less than smooth. I was delayed out of Charlotte and missed my connection in Atlanta, so I spent the night with Marcus and Emily (which was fun... Greta, their dog, slept on the bed with me to keep me company) and then Marcus drove me to the airport early Friday morning. My flight to Wichita was smooth- and on time- and the car rental process was seamless. I got to cruise solo down the Kansas Turnpike in my black Dodge Charger with tented windows (everyone thought I was a cop...which was awesome, because they all got out of my way and let me do my thing). The weekend was quick and busy- so it "flew" by (ha...good one)- and before I knew it, I was in the Charger going back down the Turnpike and on the plane home. Flight back? NOT so smooth- we blew out on a tire during our landing in Chicago, but it's okay- I had a glass of wine en route (I'm what some might call a nervous flyer), so during the VERY bumpy landing, I didn't have a care in the world.

I go back out there in a week and a day for his graduation, so I'll be sure to post some pics from that. Until then, below are a few pictures from Assignment night and the air show we went to in Oklahoma City at Tinker AFB.
